New in Munich? “I just got here and have no idea where to find anything – where do I start?” “What does the city have to offer, and what do I need to know?”
Every year, around 30,000 newcomers ask these same questions – people who will now call Munich home for just a few years or maybe forever. They come from around the globe to live and work here. To help them get settled here, there’s the new app developed by HALLO München that features sections such as “Welcome to Munich” and “Feeling Homesick?”. The free, no strings attached app provides all the information you need to get settled and feel at home here in Munich.
Always up-to-date with the latest information
When you open the app, there’s a main menu with sections such as “Welcome to Munich”. This section is divided into sub-sections like “Official Info”, “Medical Help”, “Getting Around”, “Housing and Consumer Info” and “Recreation”. Each of these sections has entries that provide basic information with a link to a webpage containing additional information, in English if this is available. For example, where do I go to get a visa or passport? How long are the stores open, and on which public holidays (bank holidays) are the stores closed? It also has important emergency numbers, as well as information about hospitals, doctors, health insurance, etc. The “Getting Around” section describes the best way to get from point A to point B in the city – by public transportation, bicycle or car. If you’re looking for a place to stay, the app has tips on finding a place to live or stay. There’s so much to see and do in Munich and the surrounding area, and the app has good tips here as well. It covers everything from sports to cultural entertainment to restaurants - and includes some real insider tips like where to see movies in English cheaply or for free.
The “Feeling homesick?” section is for everyone looking to find a bit of their homeland in Munich. Here you’ll find shops selling the familiar ingredients needed to cook your favorite dishes from back home. The international restaurants listed in this section are authentic because they’ve been recommended by people from that particular country or region. Here you’ll also find information on groups and organizations associated with your homeland that meet here in Munich. New information is continually being added to the app and updated regularly.
If you’re looking for a job, you may find the perfect one in the “Jobs” section. This is useful for newcomers and locals alike. Go take a look to see where employees are desperately needed. You might just find your dream job there!
